Pay Range: $95,000 - $105,000 based on background and qualifications

Michigan School Business Officials (MSBO) was founded in 1937 as a non-profit corporation to serve the multi-faceted interests of education. Their intent is to serve all members to the best of their ability, to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, and to provide opportunities for members to expand their professional horizons in the public education sector.

The mission of MSBO is to continually improve the leadership and management in school business and operational services, while enhancing the professional, social, and economic well being of its members.

MSBO offers certification programs, conferences and seminars, products and services, and a regular legislative update. MSBO is a growing, dynamic organization with a $2.0 million budget and $2.5 million in net assets. It employs eleven people dedicated to the service of schools.

Position Description:

The Associate Executive Director reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for:

  • Working with school systems to resolve problems and develop products that improve the efficiency of operations.
  • Consulting with school districts in business office and administrative areas and works with outside consultants as necessary.
  • Maintaining relationships with regulators at the Michigan Department of Education and other state agencies.
  • Planning and organizing MSBO’s functions to ensure success and profitability.
  • Understanding operational and business issues of school systems in order to advise procedural and policy matters.
  • Managing various conventions, conferences, and meetings to ensure delivery is on time and meets the needs of the participants.
  • Providing analysis of financial studies as required and prepares reports using client friendly terminology.
  • Presenting information individually in one-on-one and group presentations using effective presentation skills.
  • Representing MSBO at the Department of Education, Department of Treasury, Retirement Board, among others.
  • Assists in managing and supervising a staff of 11 employees.

 

Qualifications:

Candidates interested in this position must have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Management, Education, or a related field. A Master’s Degree or CPA is preferred, but not required. MSBO CFO certification is also preferred.

This position requires a minimum of ten years of leadership experience.

Successful candidates must possess strong presentation skills and be a respected leader in school finance. In addition, candidates must possess high integrity and be committed and dedicated to schools.
