Organization Background:

The Gerald R. Ford Foundation is a nonprofit organization that promotes the principles and values demonstrated by President Ford throughout his public service career.  The Foundation seeks to educate Americans about the unique history and significant events of the Ford presidency.  Finally, the Foundation seeks to enhance public understanding of American history and government, particularly the presidency.  The Foundation sponsors historical exhibits, educational programs, conferences, research grants and awards, including at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum and Library. 

Located in his hometown and former congressional district, Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum provides extensive exhibits on President Ford's long life and career with outstanding feature exhibits.

From its location on the north campus of the University of Michigan, President Ford's alma mater, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library offers visitors and scholars millions of documents, photographs, films, video and audio tape for research and educational programs.

Position Description:

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Trustees and is responsible for the overall operations and management of the Foundation. This person also:

  • Works closely with the officers, Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, and members of the Ford family, in addition to the Director and staff of the Presidential Library and Museum.
  • Ensures the Foundation pursues activities consistent with its mission, including national activities, as well as activities of the Foundation in Washington, D.C. and Michigan.
  • Provides vision and creative ideas.
  • Works with the Foundation Treasurer and Investment Committee to develop the annual budget.
  • Manages restricted gifts with those linked to the Library and Museum and prepares reports to grantors.
  • Coordinates marketing plans for the Foundation and for the Library and Museum, including events and programs, exhibits, and other activities.
  • Oversees development of the Foundation’s website to enhance the Foundation's mission.
  • Develops initiatives and programs of a national scope.
  • Provides support to Foundation Committees, including the Strategic Planning Committee, Development Committee, and Awards Selection Committee.
  • Supervises the Foundation's volunteers.

 

Qualifications:

Candidates interested in this position must have a Bachelor's Degree.  This position requires leadership experience working in a collaborative environment at a high level and proven experience in an association, foundation, governmental, private sector, or related organization.

Successful candidates must have high integrity, possess proven results as a leader, strong written and oral communication skills, and be dedicated and passionate about the ideals embodied by President Ford.

The salary range for this position is open based on your qualifications. This position also includes a benefits package.
