Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or related field. Requires three to five years related experience and/or training in business finance, venture investments, and/or government operations with exposure to complex legal contracts; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to utilize common business software such as word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software; and ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, legal, and contractual documents, as well as financial reports. Must have strong written and oral communications skills, with ability to make presentations and write speeches and articles.
Requires work during normal business hours (8 to 5 p.m.)
Position Description:
Reports to the Manager of Capital Markets Development. Assists in the design, implementation, and management of capital programs and policies, including the Venture Michigan Fund, 21st Century Investment Program, Capital Access Programs, and Angel Tax incentive and direct investments made in venture capital firms in Michigan. Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with private equity groups, commercial banks, entrepreneurs and business development support groups. Works with MEDC Portfolio Managers in advising companies seeking venture backing and bank financing; and reviews business plans in order to make referrals to potential investors.
Functions include
- Tracking venture capital investments including MEDC direct investments and investments made through fund structures in order to insure growth and efficiency
- Supporting all aspects of operations of the Venture Michigan Fund, 21st Century Investment Fund, and Capital Access Program
- Reviewing business plans for potential investment referral
- Administering the Angel Tax incentive trial program and assisting in developing recommendations for the continuation of the program
- Marketing and supporting the Invest Michigan Fund
- Conducting special projects related to equity capital, investments, etc. in order to support the MEDC’s mission in assisting Michigan in creating, expanding, and retaining businesses
- Supporting the marking and communications efforts by developing talking points and presentations on Michigan’s capital initiatives
- Maintaining and updating the Venture Capital and Angel Investors sections of the MEDC Business to Business Website
